Can we change human nature / instincts?

Nothing went wrong, in fact, it followed what would be expected to have occurred. According to game theory, each individual will do what best suits them, but not the group. The first test would have been a starting point. Then, the people who studied and realized they could get the same outcome as the people who didn't study, stopped studying and slacked off. To the individual, this was the easiest and most profitable way to obtain the desired result. The problem lies in that when every individual in the group does what they see as the best thing for themselves, the group as a whole fails. In game theory, an individual will not sacrifice themselves 'for the greater good'. It would go against current theories and observations on behavior for the students who studied to continue studying in this type of situation. They had really nothing to gain for themselves, only for the group as a whole. There really is no way to change the outcome of this, because a slacker who doesn't care if they fail a cl isn't going to study merely to satisfy the group. Thusly, instead of the top pulling the bottom up, the bottom will almost always pull the top down.
