Disappointing operatic character(s) last words: which are your candidates?
Well, I haven't watched a whole lot of operas (only started watching them seriously for the past 6 months), but I don't really like Violetta's "O gioia!" too (Traviata is the only opera I've watched live in theatre, along with Merry Widow). I don't know why, I think it's because of the way she just falls dead after singing that high note. It's almost anti-climatic for me. Sort of makes one wonder "isn't there anything else that she can do instead of suddenly falling dead like that?" For tragic operas, I prefer something more bittersweet, more peaceful at the end. I think it makes a bigger impact, after all the action hype that usually comes with the storyline.
