Late last night our pool guy, who is a plumber used PVC pipe on the water coming into our house?

And today my wife says the water smells like glue. I'm not home but using Y/A. We have a little girl who is almost 3 and don't want to put any of us in jeopardy. Is this safe. There was a leak on the water coming into our house. He replaced and glued the pipe (on the outside of the house) that comes into our house and feeds us water. I figure since hot water doesn't go there it wouldn't require CPVC pipe. Thanks for any advice.
